The clock is ticking down toward our spring concert! What started as a fund-raising idea for Nathan’s upcoming choir trip to Ukraine has turned into something a little less specific and a lot more fantastic.
I wanted to give a reminder of the event details, along with a teaser about what we have planned.

Have you ever heard a song that makes your tummy do a little flip just because the music is so lovely? We’ve got some of that for you.
This concert is centered on some ideas that we associate with the spring season: sunshine, starting over, freshness, birth. We also are celebrating the inspriational process of collaboration by sharing the program with a few of our colleagues in the arts.
One of the things we love about Minnesota is how the long hard winters (ok, maybe not this past one so much) help deepen our apprecation for all the signs of warm weather. Buds on the trees, plants sprouting through the dirt, the smell of rain, joining our neighbors for picnics, walks, and days at the lake. Would we love these things so much if we didn’t have to go without them for so long?
We are going to cherish the beauty of the season and all it encompasses with vocal music by Stephen Sondheim, Ami Andersen, Ry Edwards, and Ivan Mychik, pulling from art song, new musical theater, folk/rock, and choral genres
The music need not end with our last piece. These recordings will be available for purchasing at the concerts.
Massif Trio sings Schumann, Schubert, and Strauss featuring Nathan Bird and the guitars of the Massif Trio
Transformation featuring music from Northwestern College Choir’s 2006 Eastern European tour to Germany, Poland, and Ukraine
Nathan was part of this trip and recording.
In the spirit of collaboration and supporting our fellow artists of all sorts, we are doing something a little different at these events. I have previously mentioned the beautiful paper-art creations of my sister Becky. Every time we see her products we are moved to awe over the intricacies and beauty of what she does to create notecards, gift tins, and stationery sets, among other things. She has specially designed a variety of products specifically for this concert, pulling in the themes of spring and the colors of Ukraine.
Here’s the best part – one lucky concert attendee will take home a gift set comprised of an assortment of her creations as well as the Massif Trio and Transformation recordings, altogether valued at $80! All you have to do is fill out a little survey, enter it in the drawing at intermission, and check back after the concert to see who won!
These pictures are just samplings. There will be more at the concert – and they look spectacular in person!
We are really grateful to have this opportunity to do another concert. After our Christmas concerts we felt compelled to keep on with all this craziness.
We hope you will enjoy it as much as we do.
